The Christmas Holidays

In the holidays I'm going to my cousin/auntie's wedding in Paihia.  After that my family and my cousins are staying in a house on a farm.  We usually put up a Christmas tree, but my mum said we can't this year because we're going somewhere.  Instead, we just put up a smaller one until we leave.

I'm gonna miss all the year 8's next year!!!!!!!!!!! It'll be soooooooooo different without them!!!!!!

TERM 4 HIGHLIGHTS!!!

OMG!!!!! I can't believe it's gonna be 2015 next year!
One of our tasks this week was to do a Term 4 Highlights page in our book, then we had to list them on our blog.  Some of my highlights this year were:

  • Athletics:
I was so happy when I found out that I got into Northern Zones for Athletics. Then I got into Inter Zones and I was so exited! I didn't do that well in Inter Zones, but I tried my best.
  • Speeches
I was sooooooooooooo nervous for speeches. I was shaking so much.  I really liked listening to the other speeches though.
  • Tech
This term in tech, I did Movie Making. It was so fun editing things and taking pictures. My favourite we did was the Photo Booth movie!!
  • Japanese
Learning a new language was fun, I didn't really like doing the role plays though.
  • Space stuff
I loved doing the space topic. I especially liked learning about the ISS and watching the videos on how they live in space. My favourite thing was making the space wall in our class.
  • E.O.T.C
E.O.T.C week was really fun!☺I really enjoyed the Sailing!

Year 8!!!!!!!

Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!  I can't believe that next year I'm gonna be a year 8.
This year has gone by sooooooooooo fast!
I think the thing that will be challenging next year, is that I need to finish all my tasks way  earlier then I do now, so I can just relax and not have to worry about it.
But the thing that I'm looking forward to is that we're gonna be the oldest next year and we get a lot more opportunities.  And it will also be fun because we sorta get to rule the school

speeches......grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I just did my sppeeeeeeeeeeccchhh!!!!!! And I hated it.

I was soooo nervous. My hands were shaking so much, and it felt like I was mumbling the whole time.
It didn't go as well as I thought. It was a whole minute shorter!

I think my favourite speech was probably Ben's. He did it on how he will beat Xara Jetly.
I also liked Sylvia's speech on how students should be teachers.

I REALLY DON' WANT TO DO SPEECHES NEXT YEAR!

Candyfloss!!!

A book that I have read recently is called Candyfloss, and it's written by Jacqueline Wilson.

It's about a girl called Floss and her parents are split up.Her dad works in a cafe that has 3 regular customers and her mum has a new husband called Steve, who has a son called Tiger.

On Floss's birthday she was told she has to move to Australia because of her step dad's new job. Floss decides to stay in England with her dad and live on top of his cafe and they usually go to the fair.

Suddenly something bad happens and they find themselves homeless.
Could Floss and her dad cope with a life on the road?

My favorite part about the book was that I actually liked it, because I can never find a book that I actually like. I don't think I had a favorite character.

SPEECHES.......

So speeches are coming up (aarrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhh!!!!) I'm doing mine on Social Media and I'm soooo nervous! I've done just less then half, I think it's going okay, I guess..... I also did some in the weekend, so I think I'm going okay so far.
I really need to work on my confidence, because I've been having a lot of trouble with that.

When I present my speech I want to focus on speaking slowly and clearly. I also want to use more hand gestures.

GOOD LUCK WITH SPEECHES EVERYONE!!!

SPACE!!!!!!

This term one of our topics is Space. I've learnt a lot even though we haven't been learning it for long.
One thing that interested me the most was how people are starting to find a new, close planet to live on, since the sun is going to blow up in a few billion years. I found that quite scary even though I have nothing to worry about. I wondered if there was life in another Solar System. That would be really cool! But i also wondered if we will have enough money in the future to take everyone to another planet.
I really like learning about Space because i like looking at our stars and planets. I hope I can learn a lot more in other lessons.

ABOUT SOPHIE PASCOE!!!

For one our tasks this week, we had to chose a famous person to research. I chose Sophie Pascoe.

Sophie Pascoe is a famous New Zealand Paralympic swimmer. She is very successful and has won many medals over the years.

Sophie Frances Pascoe was born on January 8, 1993 in Christchurch. She is 21 years old.
Her parents are Gary and Jo Pascoe, she also has an older sister called Rebecca who is 9 years older than her. Sophie went to Halswell Primary School, then later on went to Lincoln High School. She started to swim at the age of 7, so she's been doing it for a while.

Sadly,on September 23, 1995, Sophie's father accidentally ran a lawnmower over her legs, and both legs got caught under the blades. Her left leg got amputated below the knee, Her right was left with severe scarring.

Her coach is Roly Critchon and she trains at QEII swim club in Burnside.

One of her Achievements

At 15 she was New Zealand's youngest at the Paralympics, and the youngest I ever New Zealander to win a medal.

My favourite pool was the Movie Pool, My favourite slides were the Twister and the Speed Slide. We also had a Harry Potter movie marathon because the weather was really bad :(
When my brother and I came back I went to Adrenaline Forrest with Abbbbaaayyyy! It was really fun. Level 1&2 were easy but level 3 was scary and a bit hard.

That's basically some of the things I did in the holidays. I had heaps of fuuunnn!

PRODUCTION!!!

Last week we had our school production. It was soooooooooooooo fun!!! My favourite part would probably have to be the dances because they were really fun to perform (even though I was only in one). I liked the Cantina scene because there was so much going on, I also liked the dance and the costumes. I don't think I would do anything differently next time. I think my performance easy ok. I really liked doing the chair dance.

this is our last production. so sad.

Elections and Parliament

This week in class we have been learning about Elections and Parliament. Here are some of the things I have learned:
  • You have to be over 18 to vote.
  • A general election is held every 3 years.
  • Only New Zealand citizens and permanent residents can vote for their favourite candidate.
  •  The first elections for Maori members of parliament were held in 1868
  • New Zealand's head of state is called the Sovereign.
That's basically some of the things I've learned but I'm going to learn more.
What did You learn?

Reading Challenges

This is about the book challenges I have done throughout the year.

  • School & Family Life: I've read 4 books from the Diary of a Wimpy kid series.

  • Mystery & Adventure: I've read 1 of the Series of Unfortunate Events books, and I've read Because of Winn-Dixie and Flora and Ulysses. They are both by Kate DiCamillo.

  • Classics: Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

  • Magical Adventure: The Witches, The Twits and Matilda. They are all by Roald Dahl.

That's basically all the challenges I've done.

Favourite sports. hmmmmmmmm

I really can't decide what sport I like more, Swimming or Netball.
I guess I'll just write about both of them.

SWIMMING
I swim for Karori Pirates, just saying it's waaaaayyy better then Tawa.
My favourite strokes are freestyle and backstroke. I really like Swimming
because you get to meet new people and also you get faster by doing a lot
of training.

NETBALL
I just recently got back into Netball because I had to stop when we moved.
I'm in Mighty Magic and the people in my team are Catherine, Siena, Maddy,
Olivia, Rebecca, and Samanalie. I like Netball because you can make new friends
and get fitter.

Production!!!!!!!!

YAY!!!!!!!!! The production is finally here! Two years ago in Room 8 I was a soldier but this year I am an agent. The dance I'm in is called Take a Chance on Me and it's a chair dance so it's really fun! I only have two lines but at least I get to say something. I already have a costume for me but i had to help Catherine with her tall alien costume. My favourite part is her jellyfish hat. To get everyone more prepared i can help with the props.

A Meaningful Song

This week for our blog we have to write about a song that is meaningful to us and why we like it. I'm choosing to write about Brave by Sara Bareilles. In the music video people get up and dance in random places and didn't care if people stared. I think that's why I like this song because you can do anything and not worry about what people think about. Be brave.

Ancien Egypt Art!!!!!1

One of our tasks for our Ancient Egypt topic was to draw different hieroglyphics and then draw a picture in the middle. The cool thing I did was that I wrote [or drew] my name at the beginning.

I chose this picture because I like how the picture was nice and easy to draw. It was interesting how the Egyptians in the picture had linked arms. It was also quite weird how they only have one foot.

Overall I really liked doing this art because I got to learn what the different hieroglyphics meant.

Cleopatra!!

In class we had to chose a certain topic about Ancient Egypt. I did Cleopatra with Samanalie and Olivia. Our activity was to make a collage with magazines to make Cleopatra's face. We did 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the best ones, then we did 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the most hideous.

What are some things you learned?
I learned about a lot a lot of things. I learnt about Cleopatra's family, job and death. I
also learned about other peoples topics e.g. Cosmetics. The women used a lot of eyeliner around their eyes. They also used minerals and oils for their cosmetics.

What activities did you enjoy the most?
I really liked playing dodge ball and having the different gods. The first round I was Anubis, I had the power to bring back someone standing in line. Sadly I could only use that once. The last round
I wasn't a god but I was fine with that.

Gymnastics!!!

Every Thursday rm12 and other classes from our school go to Nairnville to do different sports. These past six weeks we have been doing gymnastics. This is my favourite sport we do at Nairnville because they always have the trampolines and air mat out.

We usually get split up into three groups and go to the three different areas. Two of the areas are run by the instructors, but our teacher runs the other one. The teachers area is sometimes an obstacle course. With the other areas you get to go on the rings or the air mat or any other cool things
there are.

I have a few favourite things. I like the trampoline, the air mat and doing the handstands.

The thing I improved in was the handstands. At the beginning I couldn't do them but now I can [only against the wall]

Mummies!!!

In our Ancient Egypt groups we just learnt about Mummies! I really
liked it because we got to see how they wrap them up. It got kind of
gross because it showed the tools they used to cut open the bodies and grab their liver and other parts.
I learnt about it by reading about it and also listening to people to see if they had
any other things to say. I think I will remember because it was really interesting.
What helps me to remember things is to normally write them down as notes.

I hope I get to learn more about Mummies sometime because it was really interesting!

Book Groups!!!

At school we have been doing book groups. We got different books to chose from, then we had to chose 5 of the ones that sounded good.
I'm reading Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key by Jack Gantos. In my group
there is Abby, Imogen, Oliver, Will F and Anthony.

The things that went well was that we all came with lots of good ideas and comments about the book.
Everyone also always got a chance to talk. We also asked a lot of questions that everyone thought about and then asked their own question.

The things that didn't go so well was that most of us were all talking at the same time and it was hard to hear each other.  The other thing was that we all mostly had the same questions and ideas, so there was not much to talk about.

What I gained from the experience is that I got to learn more about the book by hearing other people's ideas.

If you like funny books I suggest you read this book. It was really fun to read and also to talk about.

Rainbow Magic!!!

When I was younger my favourite series was Rainbow Magic. I would sit in my room nearly every day and read these books. I guess I liked collecting the books and looking at the different names the fairies had.

The Rainbow Magic series was written by Daisy Meadows. Over 150 books have been published since 2003.

These books are about two girls called Rachel Walker and Kirsty Tate. They have fairy friends that come to them when they are in trouble. Jack Frost and his goblins try to steal magic fairy dust and get up to mischief, and its up to Kirsty and Rachel to stop them. When they get the dust, the fairies take the girls to Fairyland where Queen Titania will reward them.

My favourite part of these books is that they get to go on lots on fun and hard adventures. If I was younger, I would love to read these books again.

What was the best part about your favourite book?

My Holidays

These holidays I went to Auckland. It was quite fun!
On Easter us four older ones had a competition to win eggs. At the very end we got a
GIANT egg. The two younger ones went on n egg hunt.

While we were there it was my little cousins birthday, he was turning 4. We stayed up really late making the cake and blowing up balloons and wrapping presents. We made him a dinosaur cake, and went to Chipmunks [it wasn't my choice] After that we went to the pool.

I really liked catching up with my family!
What did you do for your holidays?

Mission Fair!

Last week we had Mission Fair. Everyone had lots of fun and bought lots of things. In our group there was Katerina, Catherine, Grace, Sarah and me. We were called The Hoohahas!

What went well?
I thought everything went well. Everyone in my group raised a lot of money and we had a lot of customers. We all did different things that sold quickly.

What would you do differently next time?
I wouldn't really do anything different next time. But it would have been good if we could all get longer breaks, because we didn't get to go and look at many stalls.

Everyone did really cool stalls and raised a lot of money for Caritas.
I had a of of fun!

Things That I do at Home

COMPUTER
I love the computer because I get to go on You Tube and watch the most random videos like the Cinnamon Challenge[odd]
I also love playing hard games  and emailing my friends.

TV
OMG! I love the TV. I love watching new episodes of different shows. I sometimes watch
Reality TV Shows or comedy like The Big Bang Theory. Sadly I don't get to watch TV often because our parents tell us to do something else.

iPod
The one electronic I probably can't live without is my iPod. On my iPod I have lots of really entertaining games that I could play for hours! I have a few apps where I can take pictures and
talk to my friends. I had to delete a lot of my songs because I didn't have enough storage :(

Playing Outside
Sometimes when me and my brother have nothing to do, we go outside and play Queen, Basketball or sometimes we just pass the ball to each other. It's quite fun! The only downside to it is that we don't have a backyard, we have a small concrete area my hoop. Also the neighbours fence is really low so when we get it over they come over and yell at us but we don't mean to. One time they didn't like us bouncing the ball because she was on the phone so she yelled at us to go inside. But I still like playing outside.

Do you guys like going outside?

Statistics

What areas of Statistics have you improved in?
I have improved in drawing angles, e.g. 125 degrees and 150 degrees and much more.

What areas do you still need to work on?
I think I need to work on drawing Pie Graphs. I find it a bit hard because I sometimes get confused as to where I am looking on the compass, when I need to draw a graph. I find most pie graphs easy, but sometimes they are a little hard.

What did you do during this unit that helped you learn effectively?
I listened to the teacher carefully, and followed all the instructions I was given.

EOTC Week.

What did you find the most challenging?
The thing I found the most challenging was making a game at Capital E because it was quite complicated and hard to understand.

What did you find easy?
The  thing I found easy was the kayaking at Camp Kaitoke. It was easy because I already do Kayaking for school swimming.

Was it what you expected?
No. I didn't think it would be that fun.

What was your proudest moment?
Doing the Orienteering at Camp Kaitoke because we found all the clues.

My favourite moment was cooking the Damper.
I loved EOTC week

Kayaking

Every Tuesday morning, we go to Kilbirnie Pool for swimming, except I don't do swimming, I do Kayaking. So far we have been learning how to capsize and how to paddle.

When we had to capsize on our own, I thought I wasn't going to come up, but it was actually pretty easy.

The Paddling was the easiest part. All we had to do was paddle around the pool clockwise and anticlockwise, and spin around in a circle with the paddle.
The only thing I need to get better at is that I have to remember to hit the kayak 3 times before coming out.

I LOVE KAYAKING!!!!!!!!!!!

On Thursday we are going to Capital E! I am going to be making my own game! Finally, on Friday we are going to be going up Mt Kaukau.
